Using Comprehensive Literacy in the Classroom: A Faculty Training Experience
Does your faculty need training in the practices of comprehensive literacy (balanced literacy)? This two day workshop covers all the basics in a 101 hands-on format. Topics include: Using Read Aloud books for modeled reading, shared reading, interactive reading, guided reading, independent reading, leveled readers, incorporating writng, organization and assessment. This workshop is intended to be 12 hours of intense training for beginning teachers using this methodology or as a refresher for practitioners. Explanations will be included of theoretical frameworks including Pearson and Gallagher's Gradual Release of Responsibility and the Zone of Proximal Development from Vygotsky.
